1987: KIM KEUN TAE AND IN JAE KEUN, SOUTH KOREA

Striving for democracy in South Korea and eliminating the systematic torture of political prisoners.

Founder of the National Youth Alliance, Kim Keun Tae was jailed and tortured for advocating democracy in South Korea. In exposing her husband's torture, In Jae Keun began her long-term activism against the systematic abuse of political prisoners. Together, they continued their fight for human rights through the inception of a democratic government in 1987.
