ASK PRESIDENT OBAMA TO CREATE A GULF COAST CIVIC WORKS PROGRAM

The oil drilling disaster is destroying the livelihoods of thousands of people in the Gulf Coast, many who were still struggling to rebuild their lives after hurricanes Katrina, Ike, Gustav, and Rita. The Gulf Coast Civic Works program would help restore the economic and environmental health of the region by creating thousands of jobs to rebuild essential infrastructure and protect the environment.

Fill out the form below to call on President Obama to establish a civic works program through an executive order that would bring jobs to the Gulf Coast.

Dear President Obama:

The oil drilling disaster is destroying the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of Gulf Coast residents and causing catastrophic destruction to the environment.

I am joining a regional task force of Gulf Coast advocates in calling on you to establish a civic works program to bring jobs to the Gulf Coast through an executive order. More than 200 regional and national organizations, 50 leading religious officials and faith-based organizations, and bipartisan local governments support the creation of a Gulf Coast Civic Works program.

The Gulf Coast Civic Works program would help restore the economic and environmental health of the region by creating thousands of jobs to rebuild essential infrastructure and protect the environment.

The program follows in the proud American tradition of using public works to alleviate poverty and create economic growth during the toughest times. Just as civic works projects helped to alleviate the sweeping unemployment crisis during the Great Depression, so too can the Gulf Coast Civic Works program help solve the economic and environmental crisis facing the Gulf Coast today.
